Other Activities

I think everyone is going to have the chance to get out and experience at least 1 thing that they would like to do in Hawaii. I know that Amanda and I are going to go see Pearl Harbor. Some other things that you may want to experience could be...:

Jet Skiing - Early mornings are the best time of day as the water is the smoothest. You may consider wearing goggles. Watercraft Connection http://a.domaindlx.com/jetskihawaii/ in Hale'iwa on the North Shore they rent for about $55 per half hour and you can ride them in the open ocean...every where else seems to rent between $35 - $80 but they only allow you to ride on a circular track. The other companies are Aloha Jet Skis http://www.barefoottours.com/1-MASTER/oahu/aloha_jetski.html , at Ke'ehi Lagoon, or Sea Breeze, at Maunalua Bay.

Kayaking - The two best places to kayak are Kane'ohe Bay http://static.flickr.com/43/118901118_460183247a_s.jpg and Kailua Bay http://www.kailuasailboards.com/ . Kane'ohe Bay has smoothest waters and is one that almost no one does. It is a trip to a sunken island of over 1000 acres that you can't see from shore. The central part of Kane'ohe Bay is a huge barrier-type reef, although much of the reef is covered by sand. You get in the water at He'eia State Park and paddle out just over a mile. The waters are almost always smooth, you paddle out over shallow coral and fish on the way out. As you approach the island a sudden sand beach will appear 2 to 3 feet below your kayak. The second ocean kayak trip is at Kailua Bay. You can kayak to Flat Island or one of the Moku-lua Islands off of Lanikai Beach. These destinations seem to be more popular with kayakers and the waters are not as smooth as Kane'ohe Bay. Kayak rental companies include Hawaiian Water sports, who will deliver the kayak to the beach for you, with half day rates from $39 for single or $49 for double. Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks it is about the same cost but you will have to transport the kayak to the beach yourself.

Ocean Tours - You might want to try Outrigger Catamaranhttp://gohawaii.about.com/od/oahuactivities/ss/outrigger_sail.htm. They have a 45-foot sailing cat. The 2.5 hour snorkel trips are $42. The sailing and sunset trips are $35 for 90 minutes, including a free open bar. Or you can take a 1 hour sail for $15 aboard the catamaran of Manu Kai. Maybe you would rather take an outrigger canoe ride off of Waikiki. Aloha Beach Services offers you a ride on two waves for $10, of course you can rent the canoe and paddlers for $250 per hour. There are also several companies that offer snorkeling cruises. It only depends on which side of the island you want to explore.

Maybe in future entries we can explore things like Parasailing, Scuba, Snuba, Skydiving, Snorkeling, Submarine, Water Skiing, Surfing, Whale Watching, Windsurfing, Night Snorkeling, Swimming with Dolphins, Swimming with Sharks, Hiking or Night Shipwreck Diving.

Today's word is Lani (lah-nee) means Sky or Heaven.
